The NRSV Bible is the best for study as the interpretation is good and the language is also not very difficult. The Good News Bible language is so simple that anyone with basic English can understand it. However the message gets diluted sometimes in trying to offer a very simple and graspable language.
The original Bible did not contain any numbering of chapters or verses. In the 13th century Archbishop Stephen Langton was the first persons to develop a numbering system for Bible chapters. In the 16th century Robert Stephanus (Estienne) developed a system for numbering Bible verses. There were others who developed alternate systems of numbering. However these two systems have been widely adopted till date. In 1551 (OT) and 1571 (NT) Bibles were printed with numbers. The invention of the printing press at this time demanded such developments so as to help in printing large number of pages of the Bible.
